Aisle of the Damned: 06/07/19- Omnispecies Cockfighting

It’s the OFFICIAL summer movie season now and we’ve got one of our first big special effects flicks without a Marvel logo attached. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is here to continue Warner Bros’ attempt to capture the Toho magic using the latest in modern CGI effects. Will it make you believe a giant lizard can fight? We also have another third film in a series with John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum and Keanu Reeves is still popping headshots as the titular hitman. Does it live up to the exacting standards of the first two? Meanwhile, James Gunn and his family are inverting the Superman mythos with Brightburn, a kind of superhero horror film that posits an evil boy of steel. Finally, Nintendo wants you to go hunt for clues with Pokemon Detective Pikachu, and thinks Ryan Reynolds will help get you to step up.

Aisle of the Damned: 01/18/19- The Perfunctory Best (and Worst) of 2018 Episode

As the year begins, we see the movie podcast critics begin their ritual driven by ancient instinct and time immemorial; naming the best and worst films of the previous year. Bryan and Kent are on that majestic journey. Let it never be said that if everyone jumped off a bridge, they wouldn’t as well. They discuss the five worst/most disappointing movies of 2018, then their 10 favorites. There are sequels both stinky and sublime. Big movies. Small movies. Movies, movies, movies, up to our ears in movies! We count ’em down! Bryan invents the word “Spielbergery” too! Join us, won’t you?

Spidey bells, Goblin smells, Vulture laid an egg...

Now I have a podcast. Ho-ho-ho.

It’s a Happy Marvelkah here at Aisle of the Damned, and our sack is filled to bursting with reviews, including the web-slinging Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! We also talk the Deadpool 2 rerelease: Once Upon a Deadpool. Is it worth seeing again without the best bits? Fred Savage says yes! Also in theaters, The Mule is Clint Eastwood’s first on-screen appearance in six years. Was it worth the wait? Anna and the Apocalypse sings in Christmas with a zombie outbreak. Is it as whacky as it sounds? Bohemian Rhapsody takes a fictitious look at Freddie Mercury’s life and times. And we even have a couple of Netflix offerings: the coming of age film Dumplin’ and the big-budget historical epic Outlaw King. It’s everything you could want under your tree and up your chimney!

ET Phone Home

Tag Team, back again! This episode, the Damned crew looks at not one, but two blockbuster franchise entries with the X-Men series’ bad boy in Deadpool 2, and another kinda anti-hero getting the kid gloves treatment in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Surprise! Kent and Bryan actually disagree on these; a lot in some cases.

Meanwhile, we also take a look at yet more Star Wars news and lots of assorted odds and ends. For those interested:

Howdy, folks! As the holiday season bears down on us, Justice League has been unleashed upon us. Does this Frankenstein monster of a film fly like Superman or sink like Aquaman? We will discuss the particulars! Meanwhile, Kent has seen Coco and is dying to tell you about it.

Plus, we discuss some Marvel developments, some trailers and less, on Aisle of the Damned!

Are you Gal Gadot, or Gal Gadon't?

Kent and Bryan can’t wait to discuss the newest D.C. Comics adaptation, Wonder Woman, the first of the current series to be released in color. Does it break the chain of disappointing attempts to chase Marvel? (Spoiler alert: YES.) Then they decide to see just how Depp the rabbit hole goes in the fifth film based on a silly walk and some gold teeth: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

There’s also discussion about a few new trailers for films and some news regarding Terry Gilliam, the Weinsteins and the sad loss of everyone’s favorite cheese loving inventor. All this and less on Aisle of the Damned!

That Deadpool short film before Logan?

What’s being called a “teaser” for Deadpool 2 (really more of a short film called “No Good Deed”) has been showing up before Logan in several theaters, like a cartoon before the more serious main feature. It was in Kent’s, but not in Bryan’s, for some reason.

Now it’s online. But not… What do I mean? Well, the version online, released from Ryan Reynold’s Youtube page, differs significantly from the theatrical version many people saw on Friday night.

Some of the differences?

1.) The song Wade is listening to in the theatrical version is “Angel of the Morning,” a direct nod to the film.

2.) More musical changes: The Superman theme goes on longer in the theatrical.

3.) The theatrical edit cuts the call Wade makes in the booth and the subsequent joke about calling his costumer.

4.) Added Stan Lee cameo online.

5.) The Hugh Jackman Australian bits at the end are added online.

I’m sure there are more changes, but those are the obvious ones off the top of my head. Let’s home more theaters realize that it is supposed to be added to the start of the show, so more people can see that cut. There have been some bootlegs of it cropping up online, but as the official release came about, they’ve largely disappeared and not replaced, especially as Fox has them removed.

Aisle of the Damned: 1/23/17- Best of 2016… and Passengers

*punch* No ticket.

Following our Christmas episode, we took a little time to enjoy the new year before we came back with one of the most anticipated episodes of the year: The Best and Worst of 2016!

After a discussion about the difficulties of seeing a lot of the stuff out there these days (there’s only so many entertainment dollars to go around) we lay out what rotted our eyeballs and delighted our brains over the last year. We also take on Underworld: Blood Wars, La La Land and Passengers before we’re done, and talk news about some blu ray announcements, Deadpool 2 news and how Warner Bros. still just doesn’t get it.

Aisle of the Damned: 10/31/16- Patrick Stewart Eating from the Trash

Bryan Lip-crypts and Kent Holle-ween are having you set your podcast dial to spooky as we shamelessly jump on the bandwagon and give our Top 10 favorite horror films of the 21st century. Before that though, we talk about Ash vs Evil Dead, the new Magnificent Seven, Storks and Shin Godzilla. We also discuss the Logan trailer, a couple of major hits losing their directors for the sequels and the possibility of a third Cloverfield coming soon. Oh, and JACK FROST IS COMING TO BLU RAY.
