Aisle of the Damned: 11/03/17- A Firehose of Crazy

Happy post-Halloween, Damned fans! In this spoooooky episode, Kent takes a look at the time-loop horror flick Happy Death Day, as well as Adam West’s final Batman performance, Batman vs. Two-Face from Warner Bros. Animation.

Meanwhile, there’s some tricks, some treats, and Bryan reviews some seasonal fare!

Early in the 21st Century, THE WARNER BROS. CORPORATION advanced robot cinema into the NOSTALGIA phase — a movie virtually identical to a 35-year-old film. The 2049 Sequel was superior in strength and agility and at least equal in intelligence, to the cult film that spawned it. After a bloody mutiny, Bryan and Kent reviewed Blade Runner 2049. It was not retired.

They also take a look the Martin Campbell IRA triller The Foreigner, with Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. Plus, Bryan takes a look at the TV cut of Superman: The Movie from Warner Archive. We also discuss news regarding old (Batman: The Animated Series, The Breakfast Club) and new (Snake Outta Compton, Bearmageddon) and everything in-between.

Kent and Bryan have a lot to complain about this episode, but does that include Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle? They take a close look at the sequel to one of the most entertaining spy films of recent memory.

They also take a gander at new trailers from Wes Anderson and the Ex Machina guy, talk the extended TV cut of Superman, discuss comments from DC/WB’s big wigs regarding the continuity of their films and gripe about issues with Amazon’s recent turn in service.

Whelp, the ol’ Damned boys are in for it now; Stephen King’s It is in theaters and it’s not clowning around. So how does it fair? Is it scary? Is it good? Is it good AND scary? We’ll find out!

We also delve into the news surrounding Star Wars: Episode 9 and a few other little movies like Wonder Woman, Terminator, and Halloween (now with more Jamie Lee Curtis). Oh, and we discuss video game films, the new Tomb Raider being the latest example.

Jinkies!

“Jinkies!” you may be asking yourself. “Where’s my episode? I wanted to hear about that movie with the monster clown. But I repeat myself. Looks like we’ve got a mystery on our hands!”

But there isn’t a mystery! Just listen for a heads up about the current state of Aisle of the Damned. Don’t worry. We’re not going anywhere.

You pay for it anyway

Sure, it’s the dog days of autumn at your local omniplex, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to watch. As a matter of fact, Kent and Bryan have a trio of direct to streaming/video/microprocessor brain implant releases which have come out in the last couple of weeks, including horror comedy Little Evil, Batman: The Animated Series cash-in Batman and Harley Quinn, and the controversial Death Note. Are they worth that monthly fee and/or rental charge?

We also discuss some shake-ups with film directors who are out at Star Wars, in at Warner Bros’ DCEU and, in the case of Tobe Hooper, shuffled from this mortal coil.

Who's winding the river?

It’s one of the worst business stretches in recent history for the movie biz, but you wouldn’t know it from Aisle of the Damned. Bryan and Kent went to see if they would be chilled by the neo-Western noir Wind River.

Meanwhile, Kent has a roundup of some other smaller and indie films that are populating the screens if you know where to look: Birth of the Dragon, Brigsby Bear, and Ingrid Goes West. What’s worth your time? He’ll let you know.

I mean, she ain't Chucky.

Bryan and Kent have seen Annabelle: Creation and they’re glad they’re watching it instead of Annabelle. But is that damning it with faint praise? And what’s with all the jumping around in time? Yeah, and what about Scarecrow’s brain? Sorry, where were we?

But before we get to all that, Kent wants to recommend Best Buy’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 release. Unfortunately, Bryan lets us know it may not be that simple. They also look at some trailers and some news, including the fact that it seems like a week can’t go by without something comic book related flying around in DC and Warner Bros., this time surrounding the Joker.

Kent and Bryan are ready for fall, but is your local multiplex? The Damned boys discuss what we have to look forward to in the next few months with their annual Back to Skull Fall Preview and there are a few places on the calendar which feel like a wasteland.

They also take a look at some Kevin Smith news straight from Boston ComicCon, discuss some big news from Movie Pass and talk some Bond.

More like Dork Tower, amIright?

Bryan and Kent saw the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and both were confused by the experience, though not as much by the film. Kent, meanwhile, has seen the artiest of arthouse fare, A Ghost Story. Does the experience haunt him?

Meanwhile, the boys take advantage of a slow news week to review the Spider-Man that could have been, had Sony not handed him over to Marvel, and he takes a severe turn towards the Herbert West.
