PLP – Beer Breaks #1 – David Fincher Part 1

In this episode we introduce our new show that we’re calling Beer Breaks! What these series of shows will do is act as a break between the regular episodes of the Plain Label Podcast.  Each time Rachel and Eric end a theme,  we’ll release a series of Beer Breaks.  These shows will be similar to the regular shows in that we’ll have themes, and for this first series I’m joined by Sean Stangland to discuss director David Fincher and his use of the serial killer in his films: Seven, Zodiac, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  Our first episode, is our look at Seven.

Aisle of the Damned: 06/23/17- It Has to Wash Its Sheets in the Morning

Transformers: It Comes on a Rough Night

Two weeks ago saw the opening of It Comes at Night. Last week, we had the bachelorette comedy Rough Night. This week we get Transformers: The Last Knight dropped on us like a 10-ton anvil. Coincidence?

Probably.

Regardless, Bryan and Kent are here to slice and dice films for your pleasure and It Comes at Night and Rough Night are both on the chopping block. So which is worth your dollars? The divisive psychological horror film or the gender-bent Very Bad Things? Find out in this episode! Plus, we have Pixar’s latest: the inevitable Cars 3. Does it handle better than the second entry?

PLUS, we have some movie news, including some superhero stuff. All this and less on Aisle of the Damned!

PLP – V2E4 – Comebacks Part 4

In this episode we conclude our theme of Comebacks with a discussion on the HBO series, True Detective. We discuss both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as well as what both of us thought about this well thought of HBO series.

Aisle of the Damned: 06/16/17- Atomic Batteries to Power

Who's the monster?

We’re back for more punishment from Tom Cruise’s to-do list. Actually, we talk 2017’s new version of The Mummy after a discussion of the Aubrey Plaza vehicle The To Do List sparks a little conversation over 90’s nostalgia.

Before we talk about the Dark Universe though, we talk about the legacy of the great Adam West of Batman: The Movie and so much more.

PLP – V2E3 – Comebacks Part 3

In this episode we continue our theme of Comebacks with a look at Kathryn Bigelow and Robert Downey Jr. and the films The Hurt Locker and Sherlock Holmes.

We begin with a discussion on war films, Kathryn Bigelow’s choice of style and some characters we love to hate.

We then move into Sherlock Holmes and Robert Downey Jr. We discuss whether or not Downey Jr. needs to play someone other than himself in a film and our overall takes on this actionized version of the famous literary character.

Aisle of the Damned: 06/09/17- Butt Rock for Ladies

Are you Gal Gadot, or Gal Gadon't?

Kent and Bryan can’t wait to discuss the newest D.C. Comics adaptation, Wonder Woman, the first of the current series to be released in color. Does it break the chain of disappointing attempts to chase Marvel? (Spoiler alert: YES.) Then they decide to see just how Depp the rabbit hole goes in the fifth film based on a silly walk and some gold teeth: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

There’s also discussion about a few new trailers for films and some news regarding Terry Gilliam, the Weinsteins and the sad loss of everyone’s favorite cheese loving inventor. All this and less on Aisle of the Damned!

PLP – V2E2 – Comebacks Part 2

In this episode we continue our theme of Comebacks with a look at Martin Scorsese and Matthew McConaughey and their films Gangs of New York and Dallas Buyers Club.

We start off looking at Gangs of New York.  We mention our varied takes on the acting in the film, Rachel’s pet peeve in movies and why Titanic and Gilbert Grape are in this film.

We then move into Dallas Buyers Club, and first off we talk about why Eric never saw this movie…no one tells him what to do or how to feel apparently.  We again bring up the acting including an actor that Eric didn’t realize was in the film until it was nearly over.  We talk about the setting of the film, the likability of the main character and if that matters, and the overall impression that McConaughey had on us in this film.

Aisle of the Damned: 06/02/17- Beaches Ain’t Shit

Beaches ain't shit but hos and tricks

In the wake of the 40th anniversary of Star Wars and Smokey and the Bandit, Bryan and Kent have a discussion about how growing up in different parts of the country affected their childhood entertainment options as well as the generational shift towards “introducing” kids to the classics they grew up on.

They also discuss some movies that are out right now: The Lost City of Z and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword are quite the Charlie Hunam double feature (if you’re into that sort of thing) and Baywatch is in serious need of rescue.

Plus, we discuss Godzilla developments and the upcoming Wonder Woman film. All this and less on Aisle of the Damned!

PLP – V2E1 – Comebacks Part 1

In this episode, we official return to the world of podcasting with a lengthy discussion on Comebacks!  This time around we are discussing Woody Allen and Ben Affleck and their films Match Point and The Town.

We start off looking briefly at the career of Woody Allen and our own experiences with him as a director before taking on his first Non-New York City film, Match Point.

We then move into a favorite thing of Rachel’s, the Boston accent and discuss Ben Affleck as an actor, with a look at the film The Town.  Once again, thank you for those that waited for our return, it was certainly appreciated.

Aisle of the Damned: 05/26/17- I Got 99 Problems and They’re All Audio Related

Alien VI: This Time It's Repetative

Apology ahead of time, folks. We have some weird audio troubles this time so after a very ironic introductory statement, Kent is very quiet through a lot of this episode. (Some of you may be pleased by that, of course.) We’ve done what we can to fix it.

If you can hang with us, we have more crazy Sony news, we talk about Zack Snyder’s sudden departure from Justice League, Kent recommends some British comedy and we lay the smack down on Alien: Covenant, the sixth or eighth film in the venerable series, depending on how you count. (And arguably the fourth or sixth film too many.)
